The Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) is a founding member of the EU Science Diplomacy Alliance for Addressing Global Challenges that will promote the integration of scientific diplomacy and its practices in the EU, provide training and institutional capacity development.

This initiative is part of the H2020-funded project “Using Science For/In Diplomacy for Addressing Global Challenges (S4D4C)”, which The Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) is a partner of.

The policy report has three main sections. First, it sets a proposal of a vision, mission, and principles for EU science diplomacy for addressing global challenges. Next, it identifies the main stoppers, warnings, and drivers for global collaboration in science, diplomacy, and science diplomacy.

The Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) collaborated in the development of the program together with the Association of Spanish Scientists in the Netherlands (CENL), the Iberia Club of the European Patent Office, the Czech Center and the Embassy of The Hague Austria.

FECYT presented to the diplomats the project “Using science for / in diplomacy for addressing global challenges-S4D4C” on European science diplomacy, in which FECYT participates as a partner to connect the different agents involved in science, and diplomacy and creating training material.

These European science diplomacy workshop aim to train and build capacities in scientists, researchers, policy-makers, and diplomat in transferable skills and specific knowledges for the field.

The Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT), as partner in the European consortium “Using science for/in diplomacy for addressing global challenges (S4D4C)”, coordinated the programme and triggered debate and interaction among attendees.

On the 27th and 28th of February, two of the researchers selected in the "Open Doors" open call of the European project Using science for / in diplomacy for addressing global challenges (S4D4C), traveled to Brussels to continue their training in science diplomacy.
