The guide compiles the main issues that a foreign researcher needs to tackle when coming to work in Spain and it targets both researchers themselves and their hosting institutions. The main topics of the guidelines are the characteristics of the Spanish R&D&I system and the researcher career in the country, the recognition of foreign qualifications for academia and professional purposes, the labor market, the tax and the social security systems, the entry and residency requirements, the health and education systems and the EURAXESS Spain network that gives support to mobile researchers.
Science diplomacy
As part of the EURAXESS initiative, aiming at promoting the mobility of scientific talent in Europe, FECYT publishes the fifth edition of the “Guidelines for the management of the mobility of the foreign researcher in Spain 2017” and an executive summary.
To break the wall. Under this slogan, young researchers from around the world meet every year in about twenty countries in the so-called Falling Walls Labs. The goal: to present innovative ideas which can offer solutions to some of the global challenges faced by modern societies.
The debate “Is more scientific culture the solution to crises?” was held on 13th September in the Instituto Cervantes Manchester, as part of the scientific activities that have dressed up the scientific picture exhibition FOTCIENCIA13 this year.
The “Science in Spain 2017-2018” collection compiles several booklets and publications with job opportunities for researchers at different career stages of tens of Spanish institutions in 2017 and 2018.
Within the framework of the INTERCOONECTA Plan of Spanish Cooperation, the Secretary of State for R + D + i, through the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT), and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), will organize the course SCIENCE DIPLOMACY FOR PUBLIC MANAGERS OF LATIN AMERICA for managers of public organizations of Latin American countries.
On September 7th, a public session will be held at the Ramón Areces Foundation within the framework of the 3rd Meeting of Spanish Science, Technology and Innovation Diplomacy. During the event organised by FECYT and the Ramón Areces Foundation, the state-of-art of Science Diplomacy and its future prospects will be discussed.
During the II Joint Meeting of Spanish Scientists in the United States (http://www.cientificosus2017.es/en), held from June 2 to 4 at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the Association of Spanish Scientists in the USA (ECUSA) presented its new mentoring program FOSTERING DOCS.

Last 28th June, the Instituto Cervantes Manchester hosted a debate about “Arts, Sciences and Society” organised by the Office for Cultural and Scientific Affairs of the Spanish Embassy in London, FECYT and the Instituto Cervantes Manchester.
