Friday, February 16, 2018

On February 8 and 9, the University of Cantabria celebrated its European Research Area Career Day. Under the slogan "Design your future", the Santander International Entrepreneurship Center (CISE), organizer of the event, invited students and researchers to learn about opportunities and alternatives in researchers career.

During the opening ceremony, Javier León, Vice-Rector for Research and Cristina Gracia, representing the EURAXESS Spain Network, the conference was presented as the last event of the EUESCADA project.

Then there were presentations in which opportunities for entrepreneurship were presented (ERASMUS Entrepreneur), for the mobility of researchers in Europe (H2020, ERC and MSCA) and in Spain (presentation "Science in Spain" with the calls for the recruitment of researchers in Spain).

During the talk "A new mentality for the digital age", we reflected on the importance of innovation and disruptive thinking to do science but above all for entrepreneurship in science. Later, on the 9th, attendants had the chance to hear some true stories of scientist working in industry.

The sessions also included more practical sessions in which tools were presented in the search for employment and collaborations in research such as the EURAXESS Jobs portal, or workshops on these transversal skills, such as leadership or effective communication, which will facilitate the development of the researchers’ career.
