FECYT presents the Guide for the mobility of foreign research personnel in Spain to the Scientific Diplomacy Network in Madrid

Thursday, March 15, 2018

In its role as coordinator of the EURAXESS Spain Network to support the mobility of researchers, the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology published in 2017 the third edition of the Guide for the management of mobility of foreign researchers in Spain (https://www.euraxess.es/spain/news/guidelines-foreign-researchers-spain).

This guide provides information on topics of special relevance to foreign researchers arriving in Spain, such as for example, the processing of residence permits, the Social Security and unemployment system, or the homologation of academic qualifications and the protection rights of R + D + I.

On the other hand, the Scientific Diplomacy Network in Madrid brings together Science Attachès in the foreign Embassies in Madrid. This forum deals with practical issues about the Spanish system of science and technology, about international collaboration in science or about the problems that foreign researchers may encounter in our country.

The session was divided into two differentiated blocks. During the first of them, Victoria Millor, Director for the Technical Office of FECYT, presented a collection of reports published by FECYT in which international scientific collaborations of Spain are analyzed through scientific publications. These data are obtained through ICONO, the Spanish Observatory of R + D + I. The complete collection includes titles that analyze Spanish scienntific collaboration with France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Mexico, the Netherlands, Sweden, Australia, Denmark, Italy and Japan (https://icono.fecyt.es/informes-y-publicaciones ).

During the second block of the session, we discussed the conditions of entry for foreign researchers in Spain. Ms. Immaculada Sedano, from the Subdirectorate of Immigration, explained how residence permits for researchers are processed through the Entrepreneurship Law 14/2013. After that, Ms. Carmen Méndez from Bizkaia Talent told us what services they provide, as members of the EURAXESS Spain Network, to foreign researchers arriving to the Basque Country.
